 FIELD

FIELD: The field will be limited to 156 players. In the event the Championship is oversubscribed, the SGA reserves the right to pare the field based on a combination of USGA Handicap Index and players making the cut the previous year.  Registrants will be notified via email as soon as possible following the close of entries in this event.

Current handicap card MUST be received by SGA before an entry can be processed.  Mail to SGA, P. O. Box 660149, Birmingham, AL, 35266-0149.  Note:  If applicant has a handicap issued by GHIN, and is filing electronically, provide his GHIN number in the "comments" section of the registration form and it will not be necessary to mail a card.

 FORMAT

Eighteen holes of Stroke Play daily on Tuesday through Thursday, June 16-18, 2009, for a total of 54 holes. The Champion will be the player from the older age division posting the lowest 54 hole score.

There will be a cut following 36 holes of play to approximately 72 players. The number of players making the cut in each age division will be determined by applying to 72 the percentage of players in a particular age division to the overall number of players in the championship, and then accepting ties for the last position within each age division.

 SCHEDULE

Monday - June 15: Practice Round

Tuesday - June 16: Round 1

Wednesday - June 17: Round 2

Thursday - June 18: Final Round

 TROPHIES & AWARDS

CHAMPIONSHIP - The Champion's name will be engraved on the Perry Adair Trophy, which will be given to the Champion to be kept on display at his club until the next Championship. Additionally, awards will be given to the top four finishers in the 13-14 age group, and the top eight finishers in the 15-18 age group.

STATE TEAM TROPHY - The STATE TEAM winner will be determined after the first 36 holes of play and each of the four team members will be awarded. The STATE TEAM is comprised of the low four players from the same state, the resident state determined by the address on the entry form.

TIES - In case of a tie for the Champion of either age division, a "Sudden Death" playoff to determine the winner will be held immediately upon conclusion of the tournament. Such playoff will start on the hole determined by the Committee and as published on the local rules sheet.  All other ties not yet settled will be resolved by matching scorecards of the final round in accordance with the USGA recommendation as outlined in The Rules of Golf, 2008-2009, Appendix I, page 124(c), except that if a tie still exists following this procedure then the procedure is repeated for the first nine holes, and if still tied, by matching scorecards beginning with Hole #1 until the tie is settled.

If a tie for the low TEAM exists after 36 holes of play, the tie will be settled by the total of the third round scores of the four players comprising the teams at the conclusion of 36 holes, and if still tied, by matching scorecards as in the previous paragraph except that the total score of all four players will be used for each hole.   If a tie exists after 36 holes of play for determining the four TEAM MEMBERS, the third round score of the players tied will be used to settle the tie, and if still tied, by order of finish in the championship.

 RULES OF PLAY

Play will be governed by the 2008-2009 Rules of the United States Golf Association and by the Local Rules established by the SGA Rules Committee. All special questions will be settled by the SGA Rules Committee, whose decision will be final. Special Rules of Play Bulletins will be furnished each day at the starter’s tent if conditions warrant.

The SGA may change the number of entries to be accepted, reduce the number of holes to be played, or make any other changes in conducting this Championship as they deem necessary or appropriate.
